Microwave Band, Frequency, and Wavelength Ranges
Note- The frequency and the Wavelength range are specified by the IEEE.
1. L–Band
Operating Frequency Range of L Band- 1-2 GHz
Wavelength Range of L-band- 30–15 cm
Application- Radars, Global positioning systems (GPS), Radio, Telecommunications, and Aircraft surveillance.
2. S-Band
Operating Frequency Range of S-band - 2-4 GHz
Wavelength Range of S-Band - 15 –7.5 cm
Application- ATC(Automatic traffic Control for radar and Antenna system).
3. C–Band
Operating Frequency Range of C-Band- 4-8 GHz
Wavelength Range of C-Band- 7.5 – 3.75 cm
Application- Wi-Fi, Sattelite Communication
In satellite Communication There are Two frequency Uplink and Downlink frequency
Uplink frequency- 6 GHz
Downlink Frequency 4GHz.
4. X–Band
Operating Frequency Range of X-Band - 8-12 GHz
Wavelength Range of X- Band- 3.75 – 2.5 cm
Application- Radar, Military Purpose.
5. Ku–Band
Operating Frequency Range of Ku-Band - 12-18 GHz
Wavelength Range of Ku- Band- 2.5–1.67 cm
Application- DTH(Direct To Home Service)
Uplink frequency- 14 GHz
Downlink Frequency- 12 GHz.
6. K–Band
Operating Frequency Range of K-Band - 18-27 GHz
Wavelength Range of k-band- 1.67 – 1.11cm
Application- K band (infrared) an atmospheric transmission window centered on 2.2 μm.
7. Ka-Band
Operating Frequency Range of Ka-Band - 27-40 GHz
Wavelength Range of Ka-Band- 1.11 cm – 7.5 mm
Application- Military airplanes, Vehicle Speed Detection.
Note- In the case of Sattelite communication Uplink Frequency is always greater than Downlink frequency. While in the case of Mobile communication Uplink frequency is less than the downlink frequency.
